Little Lakies

Football for kids aged 3 to 6 who would like to learn how to play before registering for a team in Under 6s.

What is Little Lakies?

You could think of Little Lakies as a kids introduction to football.

The program is intended to help kids become confident running with a ball, kicking a ball, and identifying an objective for their movements.  The idea is that the kids will learn to participate as a group and have fun while learning the very basics of football ⚽

In 2024, we have formalised the program as part of the MiniRoos Kick-Off (MKO) program, so registrations will be via the Football Australia platform – the rego link is coming soon!

Why Little Lakies?

We find that the younger children are when they are introduced to a sport, particularly a team sport such as football, the more likely they are to be the confident little players when you register them in a team (such as our U6 Vikings, Raiders, Warriors or Lakies).  Frequent engagement in activities that require concentration and coordination while being fun can drastically help improve gross motor skills.

You will find that the shyness and awkwardness dissipates the more often they are exposed to playing in a no-pressure environment with their friends and family.   Little Lakies is a safe, fun program for your children to learn about football.

When? How much? what’s included?

Little Lakies starts on the first Saturday in May (4/5/2024), at 8am at Boronia Park (weather permitting) every week until for 12 weeks, concluding on 10 August.  The program will pause for the July school holidays as families often travel at those times (including our coaches).

Sessions go for 1hr (including setup and packup).
For your $45 registration fee, you will receive a MiniRoos shirt, a size 3 ball, and a certificate of participation.  Kids will also get to visit to the canteen each week after each session, access to devoted coaches, and an end of season party!

Who are the coaches?

The coaches are parents of children who are in Little Lakies or are almost ready to start.  They are players themselves in Open Mens and Ladies, Over 35’s or even Premier League.

What do us parents do?

Grab a coffee, have a chat, and enjoy the watching the craziness that ensues and that you don’t have to control.

We want you to supervise your little people, but we also want you to let them explore and have some autonomy.

It’s all about discovery and building confidence.

How to register

Did your child attend our MiniTillies girls program in February?
If so, please use this link for her Little Lakies registration:  The rego for a returning program participant in the same year is slightly cheaper, and your child will have already received a MiniRoos Ball and shirt.
